Getting the DIYPlanner printed from a commercial print shop..

Hi,

I don't have a high quality printer and was thinking of getting the planner sheets printed at a commercial place like Kinkos. Does any one know how much would a place like that charge, generally speaking if I was to get the A4/Letter sized calendar printed from them? Any recommendations for printers in Chicago?

Also, is there any chance one of these shops would have a Circa/Rollabind puncher at hand?

Thanks!

support small print shops ;)

I work at a small family owned print shop... and our prices are more reasonable than large chains. If you look for local blueprint / reprographic shops in your area - you might find a better deal.

Our shop doesn't have a circa/rolla puncher BUT maybe an employee of a shop does :D I would be willing to bring mine in for a job if the boss asked.

Kinko's will print PDF's

Cost depends on the paper you want used.
As far as Circa/Rollabind punch, kinda doubt it. Couldn't hurt to ask.

(EDIT) 'Scuse me, Sara. I did not mean to overshadow the little print shop.
If one walked into your shop with some PDF's on a disc, would they be able to print them out ?

yup

we can print from disk or email or website... any image file or document file... all microsoft extensions, pdf, tif, jpg, gif, and several others that "the guys" do in the back :) (i'm sure i'm forgetting obvious ones... its past my bed time lol)

if....

If a print shop couldn't print from pdf today, I don't think it would last long in business!

Sara, does your shop have a digital printer that can print straight from electronic? (usually color laser, but not always)

Here in Krakow (yes, Poland, Europe) I don't know of any printers that don't have this capability. We have friends with a large shop that print onto A2 like this! (they also have full, 4-color web presses, too...)

print shops can print pdf

I think all print shops can print a pdf file you bring on an usb-stick. I did this last week with my thesis, I had it printed and bound. Ready while I waited! You can also choose the paper quality and colour and such. Or have some pages in colour and some in black-and-white. Just make a pdf of the pages you want, and take it to the shop, it will work.

hmmm...

i believe our printers all have rip software so you have to send it from a pc... :(

Networks, my dear...

Well sure, you need to pull the PDF into whatever program on your PC, but that is networked to the printers, right?

Circa/Rolla punching in Chicago

sk381,

Also, is there any chance one of these shops would have a Circa/Rollabind puncher at hand?

It is unlikely that any local printers will have the punch. However, you are welcome to drop by either of the Chicago stores and simply use the punches at the Circa Bar. ;)

Thanks,
Ryan

That's how they get ya'

Oh sure, the first punch is free, riiiight Ryan?

Suddenly you find yourself waking up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, clinging to the tendrils of the dream you just had... something about disc-shaped objects falling from the sky, gathering up all the loose bits of your life into a flip-back stack. You're jonesing for One More Punch... but Levenger's is closed at 3am! What to do?

You find yourself trawling eBay "levenger_outlet
and Wilde Ideas in the middle of the night -- what would make a better cover for my thesis, the grapemist, or a slightly used cover with someone else's initials? Better get both! -- then you wonder... maybe I should punch my bus pass! My checkbook! The cat! The world is mine, MINE I TELL YOU!

Your friends and coworkers stage an Intervention, and you're hauled off to some 12-step program where you are allowed only wirebound notebooks and little kid crayons (the ones with the flat sides that won't roll off the desks.) You spend your days in the Build Building With the Nice Medication Lady, drawing out pages and pages of forms and templates, wearing your crayons down to the nubbin... daily to-do lists, weight loss point-tracking, book logs. You keep a secret stash of smurfs under your mattress and at night -- after Lights Out -- you take each one out and sing to them a soft, slow song. They listen carefully. They each have names. They are your friends and Only They Understand.

Shh! Quiet! The guards are coming!

^_^

*spew*

Good thing I wasn't drinking milk! LOL!

ditto!

ROFLMAO! (at work no less!) :o) I needed a good giggle on this scorching hot yucky monday afternoon!

Are you crazy?

Who sings to their smurfs a soft, slow song or any other? You have to keep them in little packets, separated by color* and date-stamped. The packets are then stored in one of those certified 3-drawer Kraft storage bins they sell at Tar-zhey.

Except for the checkbook smurfs, those go into the fireproof box under the bed. They need to be kept more securely!

Sheesh. Don't you know how to do anything?

*(And do not mix the smurfs from blank index cards and lined index cards. I know you'll think that it's okay, they are the same color, but it never works like you think it will. Trust me.)

cult of circa smurf?

Very nice... almost poetic.

Dare I say we have a Cult of Circa Smurf on the way? :)

/innowen

The Cult...

I would suggest "The Cult of the Smurf" so as to include Rollabind, but I'm easy (just not cheap)

mixed up with the others?

Ygor,

I thought about that... but then with the lack of disc notation, I thought we'd get our cult mixed up with those others who worship the blue variety only.

/innowen

How about...

Cult of the Smurf-Bound ?

:)

Cult of the Smurf-Bound

I love it! where do I sign up? Proved my loyalty last night...I lost my keys and bus pass (which were attatched to my circa) and my first thought had nothing to do with getting home or getting back into my apartment

No!!

There are no "blue discs"! That is a dirty lie. Infidel!

There are only black discs and silver discs. The black discs are the Place Holders, they are the holy numbers 3, 8, and 11.

The silver discs are Those That Count. Your first notebook has but one silver disc, in the place of honor at the top. Your second, one silver disc in the second position, your third, two silver discs - in first and second positions - and so on.

Thus the ninety-ninth notebook will have four silver discs, at positions 1,2,6 and 7.

(It sounds much more complicated than it is in practice)

What are you looking at? What do you mean you don't have ninety-nine notebooks? Don't be ridiculous, of course I have written in all of them. What do you think, I just collect them like some sort of secret fetish, like shoes?

YES !! Blue Discs !!

Blue, Baby Blue, and Translucent Blue

OMG I never thought of using

OMG I never thought of using the colored discs to signify things!!!

The possibilities are endless.

(I'm working on a cookbook. Very hard to organize without a database. So I'm inventing a paper database.)

I love this place.
