Desperately Need a Good Planner!

Hi guys,

Well, I've been checking out DIY planner for about a year now, and so far I'm loving what I'm working with now, except that the planner I bought is...well, not good.

For the most part, it's pretty nice. But I should have realized it's a bit too heavy for my tastes, as well as a tad too bulky. I could live with that, but the real problem comes in with the fact that the closure on it is not a button snap like I thought --- it's a magnetic snap that constantly comes undone, and that just won't do.

So I was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions on good planners. I'm looking for something with 6-7 rings, with preferably a zipper closure so it's secured from the elements, that will fit 5.5 x 8.5 pages, and preferably under $30 dollars, though I'll go up to $50, if I absolutely have to.

I'm really, really desperate here, and any and all suggestions are helpful, even if it doesn't fit all of the aforementioned criteria.

Thanks in advance, guys!

Franklin Planners...

at either Wal-Mart or Target sounds like just what you're looking for. Both places have their own version of Franklin planner at reasonable price and fairly well made.

I'll second that

I'll second that recommendations - both Target and Wal-Mart have decent Franklin planners at reasonable prices. Target's seem to be a little nicer, but that's just opinion. My wife is still using the compact size one she bought there for $25 I think it was. I'd still be using mine (Classic size for $28) and but I'm hooked on the Levenger Circa stuff now.

Another advantage of the Target FC products: refill pages are a lot cheaper. $5 - $8 or so for calendar refills as opposed to $20+ for retail FC. Of course, if you're on this site, I'm not sure that will matter to you ;-)

Actually, the one I got is a dayOne planner by FranklinCovey, and like I said, the only problem is it's a bit bulky and the closure. I've already scoped out my local WalMart, and it was the best they had, sadly. And I don't have a local Target. Blah. Maybe their online counterparts will have something!

Thanks for the suggestions, guys!

Franklin Planner at Sams

Sams has the 5x8 planner with refill for $40. Its a leather planner with daily refills for 2008. Planner is 7 rings.

Try American Science and Surplus

The spam filter ate my previous post (grr!) so I'll spell this out -- do a search for "planner" on www dot sciplus dot com. They have two in stock night now, both DayTimer brand. One is a Classic size (5.5" x 8.5") with a snap closure that sounds nice. The other model is a zip-close and takes smaller paper.

Rockin' The Socks.

You, sir, absolutely rock my socks. The 8.5x5.5 is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for, and it has the perk of having a slot for a PDA: which looks just big enough to fit my iPod instead, sweet! And it's affordable!! <3 Thank you so much!

My pleasure

You and your socks are most welcome. :-)

Filofax A5 Domino

I think you should look into a Filofax A5 Domino. I bought one last month for $45. It does not zip-closure or have a button or magnetic snap; instead it has a strong, elastic strap that bands around it. It is a six-ring binder and runs about $45 USD. It holds paper the size of 5 3/4" x 8 3/4".

I had the same concerns as you have, prior to selecting my organizer. I did not want one that was too heavy or bulky. This one is perfect for me.

Happy organizing!
