Any tips out there for printing the Dynamic Templates with a non duplex printer?

Thanks

Make a PDF, then print even/odd pages in separate runs

What I can do is describe the process I would use on my printer. Let me try from memory (I can always edit this)

Look at the paper in you paper feed stack. You first need to determine which side of the paper is going to get printed on. That way you know which way to put the paper in for the second run.

The printer I am thinking of, the paper feeds straight through and the top side of the paper coming out is printed on, so to get the second side, I need to put the paper in with the previously printed side down.

Armed with just this, you can do duplex printing if you put in one sheet at a time.

The next step involves page order and which side to print first. You have to tinker with printing even or odd first and whether or not to reverse the page order.

For that same printer, if I have an 8 page document, I first print odd numbered pages in order. Because each following sheet lands on top of all the previous sheets, I will have, from top to bottom, pages 7, 5, 3, and 1. I now take that whole bundle, flip it over and put it back in the printer, previously printed side down. The top sheet is the back side of page 1. I now print the even pages in order. The finished stack has page 1 on the bottom.

At the risk of causing massive amounts of confusion, you can get the same end result if you first print odd in reverse order followed by even in reverse order. The difference is that the finished stack has page 1 on top.

Does that help ?

Thanks,

Appreciate it. By the way the program rocks.

Happy to help

Let me know how these instructions work out. I did them from memory.
My main concern is that others may want to use them as well, and I want to refine them as needed.

Printer frustration---

I ended up cutting pages and feeding them through my inkjet, for the following reasons; I use a classic binder and my HP Laserjet (used) does not do duplex .
If there is a way to get the program to generate a 2-up layout it would make it easier to print for people that may not have a duplex-- I am sure that we can all print and flip. I know that you can do that as you print, but the problem is that on the DIY_Two month they end up out of order when the pages are cut - of course that is not a problem with the 2 Page per day.
Again, the work you have done helps a great deal and I am not trying to be critical, I just think that it could be an added benefit.
I hope this makes sense.

Thank you again,
Andre

How to utilize Dynamic Templates and Multivalent: Example 1 - January 2008 classic booklet

You can do the same PDF manipulation and then use the technique described above to print out the final sequence of pages.

Yes, I could alter the software to do 2-up, but that would be a non-trivial amount of work.
I'll put it on my list of potential future features.

Multivalent Help

Ygor or anyone reading this,
Got a question as to how to make this work. I am trying to do my 2-ups and I keep getting a 4-up layout
java -classpath /Users/andrepowell/Inbox/Multivalent20060102.jar tool.pdf.Impose -verbose /Users/andrepowell/Documents/DIY\ Two\ Page\ Day\ \(en_US\).pdf -dim 2x1 -paper 11x8.5in current_month.pdf

I think that I have read the directions properly and I just cannot get it to work and help would be appreciated.

Andre

Why ... ?

Why are there two pdf documents in that command ?

Should be:

java -classpath YaddaYadda/Multivalent20060102.jar tool.pdf.Impose -verbose -dim 2x1 -paper 11x8.5in current_month.pdf
