Staples Rollabind Surprise

Stopped in Staples last week and went down their notebook aisle, which always contained the same limited and sleepy assortment of their Rollabind products, which they carry under their own name of "Rolla". The selection had always been limited to letter-size notebooks in black, classic-size notebooks in black and tan, and two sizes of the punched notepaper (letter and classic). That was always it.

Imagine my surprise when I saw the new complete display of products that took at least a third of the shelving on one side of the aisle. Looked almost like all the Circa pages in the Levenger catalog, but at a quarter of the price. The stuff included (among other things):

- pre-assembled notebooks with paper as before but in more colors
- just the notebook covers in a variety of fashion colors
- the disks sold separately in black, fashion and metallic colors
- more varieties of punched paper in different sizes (note, Cornell note, graph, to-do, project, etc., etc.)
- compact-size address books
- punched refills for the address books sold separately
- punched plastic dividers
- punched slash pockets
- punched elongated task pads
- ***** THE DESKTOP PUNCH *****
- ***** THE CARD PUNCH *****
- and on, and on, and on

The appearance, weight and quality of the desktop punch look identical to Levenger.
The covers are in vinyl and not in leather, but the prices are great (separate covers are $7.99, disks are $4.99 for a package of 22 I believe).

The quality of everything looked great.

Thought you guys might like to know.

There's a nice Rolla display

There's a nice Rolla display in the Spokane, WA store. In mid-October 2009, I bought a punch, arty cover (thick plastic, pre-punched), 3/4" rings, and clear pockets.

SKU's, please !

Why will no one share the SKU's ?

Dude!

The last time I went by ours it was the same old same old - but I think I may run by there during lunch today to check it out. Thanks for letting us know!

No luck at my Staples.

We're backwoods. ;^)

No luck at my Staples, either

...and all the old Rollas are getting pretty "shelf-worn" by now.

Not in NorCal either

But then, we're pretty far from Florida. We seemed to get the bagasse paper (sugarcane) notebooks later, too. No sign of a Rolla-revival yet, nor any change to their displays, though I did notice that the shelf tags said the covers were made of leather. (Maybe they could not fit "leather-like" on the tag?)

I only had a few minutes to spare in there this morning, but I'll keep my peepers open. Chances are once we have it, the rest of the U.S. will, too. Still no mention of Rolla SKUs on their web site, even the products they are known to carry -- tabs, letter and classic size notebooks, paper refills.

Discs would be awesome, since none of the crafty/scrapbook places around here seem to carry Rollabind products of any kind. Just remember the troubles we've historically had with the silver discs -- the coating on that color has historically jammed up pages more than the plain plastic variety.

What area of the country was this magical Staples located in? The store didn't happen to say "Levenger" on the front, did it? :-)

Same here in The Dalles, Oregon

I can never find Rolla products on the Staples Website

I've been to 2 Staples stores this week, and they had the same old stuff. I hope they are planning to expand this for us all!!

Two down

The Staples near my home only had the fold-over notebooks and some paper and dividers.
No discs or punches.

The one near where I work had a very nice display and fully stocked. Prices were pretty much the same from the first time around at Staples but a slew more products.

Rollabind

I am new to this site and still deciding what type of planner to carry. I was really excited about the rollabind, however KY staples do not carry rollabind at all. What do you all think of circa?

Circa and Rollabind

They are interchangeable. Circa started out distributing Rollabind items. The punch spacing (25mm spacing) and shape are the same as far as I know. Circa is pricier and in some peoples opinion the discs are of higher quality the covers are more upscale also.

The Rollabind and currently available Circa desk punches and the larger size punch (ygor calls it smurfzilla) make mushroom shapes (smurfs) with a little shallower dome than the factor Circa prepunched paper - a little tighter fit on the discs. I also have one of the portable punches and it makes smurfs of the same size as the Circa prepunched sheets. Levenger is supposed to be coming out with a newly upgraded desk punch which makes the larger size punchouts as well.

So my opinion of Circa? I like them fine.

Circa paper

is also higher quality. It is expensive, but sometimes you catch a good deal on ebay or here in the Bizarre forum.

I've got a set of rollabind discs as well as several sets of Circa discs, and I actually kind of like the rollabind discs better. they're also much cheaper.

I'm loving all of my Circa/Rollabind stuff. I still don't have a punch yet, but just having the pre-punched papers has proven to be perfect for me as a writer. I've been doing a lot of planning for a couple of novels, and my three letter sized notebooks have proven to be indespensable.

Looking very much forward to having a punch as well - I've already got all kinds of plans for it.

Try Staples for a punch

Kamala is the only person claiming to have found extended Rollabind merchandise at Staples who has a profile that contains a location: Tampa, Fla.

One can only hope that other Staple's locations will get this stuff.

Kamala!! Would you get some SKU numbers the nwext time you go into your Staples, please !!

This is only a few of the products...okay the ones that made it home with me.

They had the business card kit with a small punch and a holder, that was like 20.00. A note book jotter for 3-4 bucks. Slew of paper refills and different colors. The Poly ones at my store were either black and white designs, pink and maroon or blue and lime green. The Faux leather ones were basic neutrals, pink, yellow and green. I found a nice plum I bought. I was just hoping for the punch but as you can see I got a bit more. It was worth it. I love Levenger but their prices are bit steep now and the service is not what it once was.
K

You are a doll !

Now maybe I can get something rolling about if/when this stuff will appear at other Staple's locations.

I will take some pics if I can locate where my digital camera is hiding. It decided it needed a rest after my vacation.

Pics (some of them)

Things got hectic and I forgot to look for my camera.

But here they are: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thekamzone/sets/721576231467001...

I have to find a few things like the discs and pull the punch from the shelf it is on but Pearl Art went out of business here and Tampa. Which is the cause of my office space looking more like an art store than anything else.

I cannot wait to find those

I cannot wait to find those covers in my area. The nearest Staples is approx an hour away ... but those plum covers are so tempting!

Rolla - Staples Success

Thank you so much for providing these numbers - after talking to a few Staples associates in Florida and Nevada, I was finally able to order the Rolla punch with a 10% off coupon down at my local store.

Because it was a store transfer (and a $50 item), shipping was free, so final price, including tax, was something like $44.xx.

Caveats - If you want to order this way, you'll need the SKU, which is 807-295. It's listed as an old stock number (which is why you can't buy it online?). That made finding it a bit complicated - we called one store that supposedly had three and the mgr couldn't find them. Then I mentioned it was a Rolla punch and that helped the mgr at the next store locate the stock (apparently they're not stocked with the other paper punches?).

Anyway, ordered Saturday night, got it today, nice piece of equipment! Very sturdy - could use it as a weapon against intruders as well as disorganization.

Again, thanks to everyone for providing their two cents here - I loaded up one in the cart at Levenger, but kept balking at the price after shipping (getting up toward $7x). This was an awesome solution and I can't wait to assemble my journal/notebook/end-all!

THANK YOU THANK YOU!!

I had to sign up for an account here simply to thank lauriebelle and everyone else who got this ball rolling. I have been searching for a Rolla/Circa punch in the Seattle area for WEEKS, fruitlessly... but when I saw Laurie's post I decided to try calling the Spokane, WA Staples and they said they had the punches and that they could ship-to-store to any other Staples location.

I did the same thing, went to my local Staples store and after they looked at me quizzically for a bit they found the right paperwork, called up the store and it was no problem. Should be getting it in a few days.

THANKS TO ALL!! Happy new year! :)

Go online

Buy Rollabind paper and accessories online at http://www.rollabind.com/

You miss the point

Folks want to be able to walk into their local Staples and buy what they need rather than rolling up a large online order to justify the shipping cost.

Different products and most of all cost

There are some products that are the same as the rolla site but at staples they were less (ie the punch staples $50 vs site $60). Staples also has covers that the ROlla site does not, they might be Staples exclusive items mainly the colors of the covers.

K

I'd avoid rollabind.com.

I'd avoid rollabind.com.

Locally, Staples carries the letter and junior size 'leather' notebooks, pocket dividers, lined refills and to-do refills. I keep hoping they will carry disks and plastic covers, but no dice so far. I'm in Ohio, btw.

Did you see my "report" ?

Staples Rollabind Surprise in California

I live about 20 miles South of San Francsico. I found the Rollabind Jr.
This was a big surpise to me.
I asked if they are going to carry more products like this....paper,re-fills, and accessories.

The Store Manager did not know-typical answer here in California.

rolla at staples

i just found your site and was looking for a binder at my local staples when i found the junior rolla. it was the perfect size and perfect price $5.99. after looking at the circa stuff last night, i knew i did not want to spend that much money. i asked the salesman if they had a punch and he said no, but he had an idea. he took me to the rolodex section and said they have a business card punch for rolodex that makes similar shaped holes. Well that punch actually in the in the clearance center for 50 cents, so i bought two. The holes are the same distance apart as the rolla and fit on the rolla, but you can only punch two at a time. but i spend under $10 for the whole thing so i am very happy!

How do you align the holes on the punch?

With 2 holes per rolodex punch, you'd have to punch about 5 times to get 10 holes on the paper, right? How do you place the paper/punch so it all aligns up? Just curious.

my daughter used the divider

my daughter used the divider that came with the system to mark the holes and punched away!

staples ordering

Could anybody find the Rolla products online at staples.com?

No, ...

and I would add that it is probably a waste of time.

Re: Nothing in Denver

Just purchased a new letter sized book at my local Staples and it was the last one they had in the black cover. A few refills and I also bought the last set of 3 dividers they had.

We still have the same stuff here...

Rolla at Staples

I was at a store in Jacksonville, FL a couple of weeks ago and they had plenty of letter sized refills of the tabbed dividers, pockets, and refill paper but no binders. Rolla is definitely "hit-or-miss" at Staples still.
