Any cheap fountain pens?

I'm looking for a cheap but useful fountain pen. I would only use it for fun, so hoping not to pay too much. I have a Pilot Varsity, and it's great.
I'm looking at the Lamy Safari on amazon ($23), and Noodler's with the free pen ($19).
The ones on Ebay are around $10, but there are both good and bad reviews, so....
Anyone know where I can get a cheap, under $10 fountain pen?
Or anyone wanna sell one of their starter pens to me? Preferably with some ink too? (well, i guess depends on shipping. how do you ship a pen anyway? envelope? box?)

The free pen with Noodler's ink is the Platinum Preppy. It comes in an 03 and 05 nib size. I prefer the 03 because it writes a thinner line, but some like a brader, bolder line.

i read tho that the eyedropper pens, because of the air at the top, could leak if held in your hand too long.

I use them, and ...

never had that problem.
Where did you read that ? I would be interested in reading it.

what do u recommend?
I'm thinking of either Lamy Safari, or Pelikano (jr or regular student pen). Or maybe a Chinese pen, Jinhao seems to get some good reviews.
or noodler's ink with the free pen, but id need to go to a store for that. Jetpens doesnt have it, shipping is too expensive from Amazon, etc; super saver shipping means i gotta get something else, which i dont plan to.
im setting a budget of $30 for 1 pen, and 1 bottle of ink. serious thinking noodler's.

yeah, im thinking

yeah, im thinking noodlers.
im actually thinking, the new noodlers piston pens. anyone got one? how is it?

I have one...

I bought the blue one to use with the ever-divisive Bay State Blue, since I'd had some minor problems with that ink in other pens.

There's nothing remarkable about them. As cheap pens go, it was my first with a twist-off cap, which can actually be a problem - you have to start remembering to twist it off. But, the pens writes well, fills well, and is otherwise fine. Not that heavy or nice looking, but a good, basic, practical pen.

If my Lamy Safari had worked better with BSB, I'd've switched back by now, but the Lamy costs almost 3x as much by the time you buy a convertor for it.

Like the Pelikano

I like the Pelikano. I never got in to the Lamy Safari. I use the Preppy in both sizes, but like the 0.5 more than the 0.3 since I prefer a wider nib.

Other options that you haven't listed are the Waterman Phileas, which is getting harder to find at a good price; a Chinese pen like HERO; or a German pen like Rotring.

I'm using Noodler's ink in all the above mentioned pens and have not had any issues.

Good luck, and enjoy the search!

right. noodlers. preppy,

right. noodlers. preppy, hero, pelikano, lamy (well, not lamy, the grip is wrong). Im also looking at the parkers. for later.
hmm...
