Doodle-A-Day

Why not record your month in doodles? Anything goes!

Paper size:

Usage advice:

Doodle something in each box - share at the end of the month with other DIYPlanner fanatics!

Hello !, Ygor here. With Sara's kind permission, I am adding to this template. I whipped up an Open Office Drawing of the 7 by 5 grid of round-cornered rectangles. They are grouped into a single object. The neato-nifty thing you can do with this is draw to ANY size paper. Just open the document, set your paper and margin size, and then just resize the group of rectangles to fit your page.

Weekly and monthly checklists (classic and compact)

WW Momentum diet log

My mother has been doing weight watchers....and is now literally half the person she use to be! A few months ago I introduced her to circa, and she loves it. She uses compact size and it is perfect for her every day needs to keep important info, weight watchers logs, and other essentials. What made it perfect for her was the ability to rearrange the pages, and start over if she made a mistake...just pull the page out. So She was using the full page ruled sheets to keep track of her diet, until they came out with this new Momentum program. So I did some research and came up with my version of this. With a little DIY tweaking and motivational bits here and there this is what I came up with. She loves it and I have printed out double sided pages on compact size paper I cut myself and punch to fit the circa notebook.

Paper size:
Multiple Sizes
Usage advice:

The weekly page goes first, on the back of that a daily page, after that print out 3 pages of daily double sided and you have a whole week on 4 sheets.

Procrastination List, Classic and Hipster sized

Everyone has their favorite addition to the GTD system. Mine is the Procrastination List, a place to park things I am resisting, without having to grow numb to the entire pile through unnecessary guilt (did I: do the Weekly Review/ask the correct questions/ask "why" enough/blah, blah, etc). This allows me to empty my mind of everything in it without being hindered by items I simply cannot decide on right now.

The inspiration for this came from discussions in GTD forums about moving email you are resisting to a "pending" folder, rather than leaving it in the "Inbox", thus leading you to resist the whole thing. This led me to get a physical "pending" box (a see through crate) for my apartment (in addition to the "Inbox"), and eventually to this template.
All three ("pending" email, crate, and template) work very well, for me at least.

Paper size:
Multiple Sizes
Thumbnail:
Procrastination.png
Usage advice:

By the GTD definition, anything you don't decide to move on, is a SomedayMaybe. The problem with that is that the S/M is not a daily review list, while the Procrastination List must be reviewed more often than weekly, of necessity, or it will automatically become a S/M, or worse, a "never".
Also, items in S/M are things you feel comfortable not doing anything about yet, while the Procrastination List reminds of things you want to move on, while not letting them get in your way right now.

I have created it in two sizes, classic and hipster (I use both). The file formatting of the classic size below is freely based on the work of hofsanoj's Next Step List-Advanced (great template by the way).
The main two columns are "What is it" and "Why" (as in "why am I procrastinating on this", a reminder of the reasons really helps getting things moving). This template size includes a few contexts just in case my mind unfreezes and I actually make some decisions (calls, errands, at computer, WaitingFor, quadrant 1, quadrant 2, and Someday/Maybe), as well as a Date column to track how old the item is.

The hipster size below is pretty simple for lack of space, just two columns, What, and Why.
For some reason, while I am allowed to upload multiple templates, I am only allowed to upload just one preview image, so I have only added the Classic one.

I hope it is helpful to someone.

EDIT March 2014: I created this when I was still using an inkjet printer. Since I mostly use the classic size, I did not notice that the hipster template doesn't work too well with my laser printer, so I may have to resubmit it (it was created with the intent to insert 3x5 cards on the feed slot, but on my laser I have to use the paper tray instead, or they will not print right, so I am forced to use letter size page templates to align 3x5 cards correctly on my Brother laser printer).

SCRUM Planning - User Stories

Scrum is an iterative incremental framework for managing complex work (such as new product development) commonly used with agile software development.

In Scrum, work is expressed as user stories. A team may write its user stories in a number of ways as long as they are written from the perspective of the end user. Put another way, team members are encouraged to think of their work from the perspective of who will use it (hence “user” story).

In summary, user stories document requirements with particular attention to the end user’s point of view.

Thumbnail:

Usage advice:

This template is a little more structured than the traditional way of stating user stories ("As a [end user role], I want [the desire] so that [the rationale]").

Using this template, the team will have to think about a title, a mission to accomplish, the success conditions, and the expected (tangible) deliverables.

The template can also be used to break down the story in smaller steps during the sprint planning.

Month calendar

A simple month calendar template inspired by filofax 'month on two pages'. Can be customized for any paper size while prepared for A5 format.

Automatically places weekdays in their place, highlights weekends, may be prepared for any month in one step.

Paper size:

Thumbnail:
month_calendar.png
Usage advice:

To get a template for a certain month, just enter any date of a needed month in B1 cell in 'a5' and 'small' sheets or in U1 on 'a5_2up' sheet. ('Small' sheet is just for the month to be copypasted into any other odg/ods template)

The template will produce big requested month calendar with previous and next months in small boxes, with weekends and current date highlited.

Highlights are easily customized via styles (cal_* set of styles). Language can be set via locale setting and cell format.

Comments and suggestions are welcome. Enjoy your month!

A Spreadsheet Month

Here is a quick and dirty Open Office Calc document with two sheets (one for First Day of the Week is Monday, one for Sunday)

I tinkered this up while playing with the two Chaos spreadsheets and though it worth sharing.

Usage advice:

Just change the month and/or year at the top of the sheet and it will show the month you want. Leave the day in that cell at "1" or it will mess up the dates.

Simple Day Plan System 5 x 8

Simple Day Plan System - 5" x 8" index card format.

Paper size:
Other
Usage advice:

Ideal for people who have relatively few appointments and to-do items. Great for people who like to travel really light.

Consists of blended Appointments/ToDo area, Notes, and on the reverse, Agenda (can also be used as a free-form expanded ToDo list), Daily Tasks Completion Indicator, and Evening Items area.

Using the Daily Tasks Completion Indicator (DTCI) is simple. At the end of the day, review the number of tasks and appointments completed, and divide by the total number of tasks/appointments that you started out with, then circle the appropriate percentage. The DTCI acts as a reminder of what still needs to be done and acts as a quick visual indicator of your day's progress. You could even choose to mark your
intended goal for the day with red ink, and the actual results with ink of another
colour.
