HipsterCover Web App

I whipped up this little webapp to allow me (and you) to change the cover of my HipsterPDA any time I get the urge. It allows you to upload any photo you choose and converts that photo into a cover for your HipsterPDA. Try it out. Get hipper. Tell me how I can improve it.
http://www.eleven21.com/hipster

Usage advice:

Just fill out the online form for this web app and it will generate a HipsterPDA cover that will allow you to show off a picture of your family, friends, pets, or favorite movie star on the cover of your HipsterPDA. The output is a PDF file in LEGAL format. I recommend you print it on card stock or get it laminated for durability. If you don't, it's no big deal, just create a new one!

This app is given without any warranty whatsoever. You may use it as you wish but any attempt to grab the code is against the rules. If you want to know how I did it, just get in touch and I'll be glad to let you know. My only request . . . let me know how I can make it better.

Enjoy!

Hipster Envelope

A simple cover for your HipsterPDA based upon the cover provided in the D*I*Y Planner Hipster PDA Edition.

Paper size:
Index Card (3 x 5)
Usage advice:

This came to me after seeing what some really creative people came up with as cases for their HipsterPDA's. Though cases break the basic philosophy of the Hipster PDA, as stated on the Hipster PDA site as "3. There is no step 3".

I know that forms also break the basic philosophy. But I am of the opinion that a form gives structure and in many cases help the data gathering process, so a simple cover or case was needed.

I think this one is simple, can be produced inexpensively, requires no clips or rubber bands or other hardware, and if you already use the D*I*Y forms you have all the skill need to construct one your self.

I have set up my Hipster as follows:

1. An envelope case

2. An index card with the Covey methodology on one side and the GTD methodology on the other. I had this laminated and trimmed it to fit.

3. An index card with the 2005 Calendar on one side and the 2006 Card on the other. This one is laminated and trimmed also.

This makes a case with three sections. In front are those cards I need to deal with when I get home. The middle holds other reference cards - Matrix cards with Blood Pressure, Shopping lists, checklists, whatever I need. In the back I carry lined index cards. I write big and this works well for me.

When I need to write something I pull a card from the back and use the envelope - with the laminated cards inside - to write on. It makes a nice surface to write on and fits in the palm of my hand.

Music Notes

Compose music on your Hipster PDA

Paper size:
Index Card (3 x 5)
Thumbnail:
Usage advice:

Inspired by John Norris' Hipster PDA forms, Pete Phillips contributed this handy Hipster PDA form for jotting down musical notes.

Nine staves give you plenty of room to compose your next masterpiece, and there's even a bit of space to write down lyrics for your next catchy tune. You can also write guitar chords above the lines.

Far out tip: write down a few songs and laminate the cards. Then you can hit the right notes when you're yodeling in the bathroom! ;)

Comparison Shopper for HPDA

HPDA-sized card to list the features you want in an item you want to buy and to compare up to 3 different models.

Paper size:
Index Card (3 x 5)
Thumbnail:
Usage advice:

This template was inspired by Merlin Mann's Phone Made of Human Ass podcast. It is a simple reference card that you can list features you want in a new device, with space to fill in several models and check off which have the features you are looking for. There is also space for notes so you can keep track of things like which store/website carries which model, etc.

This is my first-ever template using the DIY Planner Widget Kit, and I admit I screwed up saving the OODraw file, so I do not have the source file, only the finished PDF. My apologies...

Fun Monthly Calendar Template

This is a quick and informal monthly calendar template for the Hipster PDA that you can fill in by hand, or edit it in a graphics app for a more polished look. I've gone for a more "rounded" look, and a more casual font, but this is inspired by the excellent DIY Planner templates.

Paper size:
Index Card (3 x 5)
Thumbnail:
Usage advice:

Print from your favorite graphics application on an 3x5 index card and fill out the circles with the appropriate days for whatever month you are setting up. If you feel real industrious fill them in with your graphics app. I used the TrueType font Comic Sans for the lettering if you want to replicate it yourself.

* I use the top right circle to indicate to myself if any information is recorded on the back or my cards. Simply check it off if you write anything on the back.

FlyLady Hipster Forms

Hipter PDA size pages for Daily and Weekly Routines, Cleaning lists, shopping master lists and Cleaning ZONES

Paper size:
Index Card (3 x 5)
Usage advice:

I keep most of these in a recipe card box for help remembering what I need to work on daily, weekly and monthly in keeping my home organized and clean. I have the shopping and pantry list attached inside one of the cabinet doors in my kitchen with a binder ring. They are laminated so as I run out of things I can highlight them on the list and take the ring with me when I go shopping.

Water/Sleep Tracker

Keep track of glasses of water and number of hours of sleep with this Hipster PDA template.

Paper size:
Index Card (3 x 5)

Usage advice:

Use this template to keep track of your water intake and sleep! Each card conveniently holds a week of data. Mark glasses of water as you drink them, and hours slept when you wake up. Connect daily columns with lines in order to see trends over a week, and lay several cards side-by-side to see trends over longer periods of time.

(As you can see, I've not been getting enough sleep or water lately... Meep!)

Hipster PDA Budget

Three-column table for keeping track of projected expenses and remaining budget

Paper size:
Index Card (3 x 5)
Thumbnail:
Usage advice:

You can use this to keep track of your budget: how much you've set aside and how much is left. Start by writing your total monthly income on the first row. You can use a pen to write your fixed expenses such as rent, but a pencil is better for writing variable expenses. Fill in the amount left so that you can avoid going over your budget. Update this card at the end of the day when you go through the receipts in your inbox. You can use the back of the card to keep track of transactions without receipts.

Client Time Log

Being an "Independent Contractor", whether by choice or necessity, demands a level of organization that most people would find daunting. I must confess I was initially a bit shaken. However, with the help of this website and a bit of research, I found that all of my fears could be calmed with a single index card.
This is my first submission. Be brutal! I crave honest feedback.

This template creates 4 sets of Benjamin Franklin's The Art of Virtue templates.

Excellent for printing out and carrying since each 'page' is the size of a 3x5 index card. Could be printed on cardstock. You may wish to laminate some sheets.
Each of the 13 virtues is backed by blank templates for future use.

Hipster Landscape Forms

Landscape forms for hipsters. Includes two different schedules, Task Plan, Do It, Buy It, Be There, Note to Self, Voicemail, 3 different Project forms, and a Project Actions form.

Paper size:
Index Card (3 x 5)
Usage advice:

This is a small collection of forms I was twiddling with. They're one-up 3x5 format, but they'd scale to 4x6 no problem.

Line spacing is .20 inch, slightly larger than the DIY standard hipster forms. This is landscape orientation so you have fewer items with more description.

Thought you might find them interesting. The Draw file is included so you can fiddle with them if you want. PDF is in there if you just want to print.

Hipster Portrait Forms

A few forms for the hipster, in Portrait orientation. Includes a Schedule, Task Plan, What/Where/When, and an untitled ruled card with a grey column on the right.

Paper size:
Index Card (3 x 5)
Usage advice:

These are a few forms I've been fiddling with. They're for 3x5 cards, but they'll scale to 4x6 just fine.

Line spacing is .20 inch, wider than the standard DIY hipster forms.

I use the schedule and task plan back-to-back. One of these per day shows me what meetings and appointments I have as well as my intended (but unscheduled) actions for the day. There's a spot for a time estimate on the Task Plan, so you can calculate just how many things to put on the plan based on how much time you have available.

The What/Where/When card is my new favorite. It's incredibly versatile because the title bar includes a prompt for what it is, where it is, and when it is. The rest of the card is checklist-style. So this card could be your meeting agenda/notes, a shopping list, brainstorming for a project, or a bundle of notes from a conversation. The last slide, the one with no title, goes on the back of the what/where/when card for overflow. I only use the back for meeting notes, generally, so there's no boxes on the ruled slide.

The PDF is in the zip, as is the Draw file. So you can just print or you can tweak the forms.
